A look back at the event on 28 May 2026 // Cabaret artist Sebastian Schnoy on "The United Dreams of Europe"
With his show "The United Dreams of Europe", the cabaret artist, speaker and author Sebastian Schnoy captivated his audience on 28 May in the Lernwerk auditorium.
The event was opened by Gudrun Koppers, Deputy Mayor of Bocholt, who in her speech paid tribute to existing European projects and the volunteers who work locally to promote Europe and European values.
She cited, for example, the police station in Dinxperwick, where German and Dutch police officers work together. She also mentioned Europa Union Bocholt e.V., which brought the "Europaaktive Zivilgesellschaft" award to Bocholt.
The second speaker, Peter Wahl, Chairman of Europa Union Bocholt e.V., presented the voluntary work carried out within the association and encouraged people to get involved.
"The united dreams of Europe"
During his programme, Sebastian Schnoy founded his "United States of Europe" together with the audience. In doing so, he convinced his audience, amongst other things, to accept Canada, Scotland and Montenegro as further EU members.
With plenty of humour but also thought-provoking content, he sought to show the audience that the EU is seen as a place of longing by many non-EU countries and refugees from all over the world, and that we Germans in particular often only see the negative side. Schnoy called on the audience to stand up for Europe and against exclusion and totalitarianism, even when it becomes uncomfortable.
Following the programme, visitors were invited to discuss their own wishes and hopes for Europe over drinks and canapés and to jot these down on the paper provided.
Funding
The event was organised by Europa-Union Bocholt e.V. in collaboration with EUROPE DIRECT Bocholt. Europa-Union Bocholt e.V. received financial support from the 'Europa-Schecks' state initiative of the Minister for Federal and European Affairs, International Affairs and Media, and Head of the State Chancellery of North Rhine-Westphalia.
