On 14 October 2026, the draft of the new 2027 budget was officially tabled. This marks the start of the consultation process.

Following its publication on 15 October 2026, the draft budget shall be deemed to have been announced on the following day (16 October 2026). From this date, all residents and taxpayers in the town of Bocholt have the opportunity to view the draft budget for 2027 and to raise objections by 16 November 2026.

Germany, and the town of Bocholt in particular, currently find themselves in a strained financial situation, characterised by a subdued overall economy, an increased savings rate amongst private households and structural challenges.

Although the financial conditions in Germany have become noticeably more challenging, it remains essential to actively develop Bocholt further and to keep a firm focus on important investments for the future. The town of Bocholt is also called upon to make consistent use of its own scope for action. In concrete terms, this means carrying out a review of its responsibilities, critically examining existing structures and standards, and setting clear priorities.

Like many other local authority budgets, the City of Bocholt's budget is under pressure to reconcile rising social expenditure and energy costs with stagnating or declining revenue. At the same time, there is the challenge of investing in future-oriented areas such as digitalisation, climate protection, education and infrastructure, despite tight budgetary constraints, in order to secure long-term attractiveness, competitiveness and social stability.

The aim must be to develop the town in a way that prepares it for the future and to preserve its appeal and its diverse structures.

The planned annual result for the 2027 financial year amounts to -44,656,300 euros.

The largest discrepancies between the 2026 and 2027 plans result primarily from:

  • Business rates
  • Municipal share of income tax
  • Allocations from the state
  • State grants towards TEK operating costs

On 11 December 2024, the draft budget for the years 2025 and 2026 was tabled. This marked the first time that a two-year budget had been presented to the Bocholt City Council. The draft budget was subsequently approved on 19 February 2025.

At present, both Germany and the town of Bocholt find themselves in a strained financial situation, characterised by a subdued overall economy, an increased savings rate amongst private households and structural challenges.
The budget of the City of Bocholt - like many other local authority budgets - is under pressure, as rising social expenditure and energy costs are met by stagnating or declining revenue. At the same time, there is a challenge to invest in future-oriented areas such as digitalisation, climate protection, education and infrastructure, despite tight budgetary constraints, in order to ensure long-term attractiveness, competitiveness and social stability.

The budget speeches by the political groups will be submitted as soon as they are all available in written form.

The projected annual results amount to -33,671,500 euros for 2025 and -35,155,300 euros for 2026. The largest deviations from the budget for 2024 (-17,511,751 euros, including the supplementary budget) are primarily due to:

Interactive budget

Once again this year, there is an interactive budget. As this cannot be presented as a two-year budget, there are separate charts for each financial year.

Clicking on a chart opens the selected section of the budget with information on the overall budget. In the overall plans, you can view further information on the types of revenue and expenditure by clicking on the relevant part of the chart. For the sub-plans, select the department in the initial overview, after which the pie chart with the corresponding data will open.

Further information on the 2025/2026 two-year budget can be found in the documents below.
