Upcycling action for city cycling

They are all the rage, colourful waterproof bags, backpacks and pack rolls made from old truck tarpaulin. Interested people can now design such bags themselves on two dates in the coming week.

Another date on Monday, 8 May

Another date for the action is planned for Monday, 8 May. You can get all the info here.

It is not difficult to make them and there are no limits to individuality when it comes to design. The best way to do this is with an industrial sewing machine. Not everyone has one? No problem in Bocholt, where there is a Makerspace at the Westendkreisel (entrance between Norma and Kik).

Discarded professional sewing machines are available there and, on top of that, people who can handle them and instruct others. Where does the material come from and how much does it cost for those who want to try it out? There is good news there, too:

"The city of Bocholt is providing old STADTRADELN ADVERTISING BANNERS free of charge for the project and will pay the fees for the Makerspace," says environmental officer Angela Theurich. There will be two courses during the Stadtradeln period, the first on Tuesday 2 May from 3.30pm to 6pm, a second course starts on Friday 5 May from 3pm to 5pm.

UPCYCLING is fun

In the sewing courses, interested people can get started, gladly with several people. The tarpaulins are available in blue, pink, green and white. So there should be a suitable and, above all, completely individual piece of tarpaulin for every taste.

Webbing, fasteners, thread, these are also available in different colours. Those who can already sew well and do not need any assistance can sit down at the sewing machines independently on the following dates: Tuesday, 9 May, or Tuesday, 16 May, both 6 to 8.30 pm.

Thanks to the support of the Stadtradeln campaign and the City of Bocholt, this is also free of charge. So register quickly with Tanja Doeven on +49 176 86660925 or by email to makerspace-bocholt-TD(at)web(dot)de.
