CITY CYCLING 2025: cyclists from Bocholt set new records

Bocholt is currently the leader among municipalities of comparable size // Last year's result exceeded by 54,000 km

In this year's CITY CYCLING campaign from 1 to 21 May, cyclists in Bocholt once again set new records. The previous year's result of 691,931 kilometres was surpassed, with 745,492 kilometres on the counter at the end.

cycle and thus set an example for climate protection and sustainable mobility. The number of cyclists has risen slightly to 3,041 participants (2024 = 3,013). Converted to the number of inhabitants, the number of kilometres cycled per inhabitant has risen from 9.6 to 10.3 km.

With these results, Bocholt is currently in first place in the nationwide competition of municipalities with 50,000-99,999 inhabitants, ahead of Bamberg (681,184 km) and Rheine (569,217 km). Bocholt's final ranking will not be revealed until the end of September, when the campaign for all municipalities in Germany has ended.

Mariengymnasium as the school team with the best overall result

Mariengymnasium was once again particularly motivated in the CITY CYCLING campaign. With 427 active cyclists, the school provided the largest team in Bocholt and thus achieved around 10% of the total kilometre result of 73,656.8 kilometres. The previous year's result of 59,660 kilometres was once again significantly exceeded by almost a quarter and the 2023 result was more than doubled (37,772 km). After the summer holidays, Mayor Thomas Kerkhoff will recognise and award special achievements by individual classes.

Other special team achievements

With 53,328 kilometres, the 180 active cyclists from the Liebfrauen parish achieved the second-best team performance. The second largest team this year was the Clemens-Dülmer-Schule with 189 cyclists, achieving the best result of any Bocholt primary school with 27,019.7 kilometres.

With 30,707.7 kilometres, the "Flender" team, consisting of 104 people, achieved the best result as the most actively cycling company team, closely followed by the city administration, which achieved 30,488.9 kilometres with 135 cyclists. The ADFC was the best club with 97 participants and 28,741.9 kilometres.

Prizes for the participants

Prizes such as vouchers from this year's sponsors GILDE Group and Bocholter Energie und Wasserversorgung GmbH, bike bags, toolboxes and bike pumps were raffled off among all participants. The prizes will also be presented after the summer holidays.
