Dirk Rohrbach again in Bocholt

For the 4th time Dirk Rohrbach will be guest in Bocholt on invitation of the VHS Bocholt-Rhede-Isselburg during a lecture tour and will present his latest adventure. The travel journalist and professional photographer is the first European to paddle North America's longest rivers from source to mouth. From the Rocky Mountains through the Great Plains and the Midwest to the deep south to the Gulf of Mexico. 6000 kilometers on the Missouri and Mississippi.

In the California desert, Dirk Rohrbach builds a wooden kayak for the journey, then ascends to the source of the Missouri in Montana on snowshoes and follows the first waterways for 100 miles on a mountain bike before continuing his journey in a boat. Along the way, the photographer and adventurer explores the small settlements and vibrant metropolises along the banks on America's most important lifeline. He meets descendants of the native peoples, musicians, captains and 'River Rats', quaint types who could never imagine life without the river.

America's Heartland

Majestic mountains and endless prairies, gigantic dams and giant freighters, cotton fields and Delta blues. Missouri and Mississippi tell many stories on the long road through America's Heartland. Dirk Rohrbach tracks them down, under his own steam, decelerated and close to nature and the people.

It will be his most epic journey yet. Months alone on the fourth largest river system on earth. Brutal storms, grueling gales, smoldering heat. Making progress becomes a challenge, a confrontation with the forces of nature and oneself. And an unforgettable adventure, which you can experience on this evening with impressive images presented on a panoramic screen.

The meeting takes place in co-operation of the VHS Bocholt Rhede Isselburg, the BBV group of media and the city savings bank Bocholt. At the box office adults pay 10 euro, , pupils, pupils and apprentices 9 euro. In the advance booking the maps are reduced around 1 euro. Advance booking offices are the VHS office Bocholt (Stenernerweg 14a), the VHS branch offices in Rhede and Isselburg and the BBV (Europaplatz 24-28). Alternatively, online registration is possible at www.vhs-bocholt.de.
