Increased "wild rubbish dumps" at municipal container sites

Costs are incurred by placing waste next to collection containers

In recent months, there have been an increasing number of cases of waste, household goods or unusable items being dumped next to used clothing, glass or paper containers. The city would like to point out that this is creating more and more additional work for the waste disposal and service company.

The city of Bocholt calls on citizens to only throw recyclable materials into the designated collection containers and not to place any waste next to them. Illegal dumping at container locations constitutes an administrative offence and can be punished with fines. It also causes considerable additional costs for the city or container operators and jeopardises the recyclability of correctly disposed materials due to vermin infestation and soiling.

The following applies to the used clothing containers: Only clean, wearable clothing and shoes bundled in pairs in bags may be thrown in. Wet or soiled textiles, carpets, cuddly toys or other waste do not belong in the containers. Only empty bottles and jars, separated by colour and without lids, belong in glass containers. Porcelain, window glass, ceramics, mirrors, light bulbs and cardboard packaging are out of place there. Paper containers are intended for newspapers, cardboard boxes, paper packaging and exercise books. Pizza boxes with leftover food, wallpaper or drinks cartons such as Tetra Paks are not permitted. To prevent particularly large cardboard boxes from clogging up the paper containers too quickly, they should be torn into pieces before disposal - or disposed of directly at the recycling centre.

If you are unsure, please contact the waste advice centre or the recycling centre of the Bocholt waste disposal and service company (ESB). If a container is overfilled or damaged, please report this to the ESB or switch to another location or the recycling centre. The providers themselves are responsible for commercial container locations; their contact details must be visibly displayed on the container.

The city of Bocholt asks all citizens to handle recyclables responsibly. Every bag of rubbish that is not properly deposited means additional costs, environmental pollution and reduces the impact of charitable projects, such as the collection of used clothing.

About the container locations

There are 90 container locations for paper and glass throughout the city, which are emptied up to four times a week by the employees of the waste disposal and service company. If the containers are nevertheless overfilled, the ESB asks citizens to drive to an alternative location or to dispose of the recyclables at the Bocholt recycling centre. This is open from Tuesdays to Fridays from 9 am to 6 pm and on Saturdays from 9 am to 1 pm.
