ESB accepts old mobile phones

Information stand on St. Georg-Platz on Tuesday, 7 May, from 9-12 a.m.

"Get your mobile phones out of the drawer!" The Bocholt waste disposal and service company (ESB) is now calling for this. This refers to old, no longer used devices. These can be handed in at the information stand on St. Georg-Platz on Tuesday, 7 May, from 9 am to 12 noon. According to the ESB, professional reconditioning with deletion of existing data is guaranteed.

100 million old mobile phones

According to NABU, there are more than 100 million old or defective mobile phones in German households. In many cases, old mobile phones are still stored in drawers, no longer needed but kept as a reserve in case one breaks down. However, the devices contain valuable materials that are too good for the drawer. The manufacture of a smartphone or mobile phone requires 60 different chemical elements, which are mined worldwide.

Mobile phone recycling conserves resources

As many as 17 metals can be recovered by recycling old mobile phones, and plastics can also be recycled. All data should be deleted and the SIM and memory card removed before handing in the devices. In addition, the batteries should be removed from the devices, if not permanently installed, and delivered separately.

Drop off at the recycling centre

Outside of the campaign, it is generally possible to hand in used mobile phones at the recycling centre.
