CD collection campaign on St.-Georg-Platz: Sustainable recycling of old data storage media
Information stand on 1 July 2025 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on St. Georg Square
Old CDs do not belong in the residual waste, but in the recycling: On Tuesday, 1 July 2025, citizens can hand in old CDs on St.-Georg-Platz in Bocholt from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. The waste disposal and service company (ESB) will set up an information stand near the fountain where the silver discs will be collected in a closed container.
Even though CDs have been replaced as a storage medium by modern technologies such as cloud storage, USB sticks and streaming services, large quantities of unused CDs and DVDs still lie dormant in many households. However, the polycarbonate plastic they contain is a valuable raw material that can be reused through a special recycling process - for example in computer technology or medical technology.
To protect personal data, waste consultant Daniel Heinen recommends scratching the CDs several times with a sharp object before handing them in. Incidentally, the CD cases do not belong in the collection, but as sales packaging in the yellow bag. If you don't have time on 1 July, you can also hand in your CDs at the recycling centre all year round. If you have any questions about the campaign, please contact waste consultant Daniel Heinen on 953-34 01.
