City marketing

For selfies in the bay

A new highlight has adorned the bathing bay at Bocholter Aasee since 6 August 2025: an eye-catching photo point in the shape of a stylised bicycle, embedded in a wooden bench, was ceremoniously handed over to the public.

The metal and wood construction is a gift from Volksbank Bocholt on the occasion of its 125th anniversary - and a symbol of the city's strong cycling culture.

"This is a living city brand at one of Bocholt's favourite spots with the most beautiful sunset Bocholt has to offer", welcomed Mayor Thomas Kerkhoff and thanked the sponsors and implementers. The city hopes that many people will take "selfies" and share them via their social channels so that the typical Bocholt motif is spread and arouses curiosity.

Volksbank board member Franz-Josef Heidermann explained that they wanted to give "something back" to Bocholt's urban society in the anniversary year. This included shady benches in the city centre, the design of the chimney at the "Lernwerk" and the new photo point at the Aasee lake.

The unique piece was developed and realised in collaboration with the city of Bocholt, the city marketing department and the companies Holzbau Kampshoff (Bocholt) and Metallbau Bollmann (Rees). Entsorgungs- und Servicebetrieb Bocholt ensured that it was securely anchored on site.

Wave loungers and café coming soon

According to a survey, the leisure area at Lake Aa is one of Bocholt's favourite places and is currently undergoing targeted further development. In addition to the already renovated paths around the lake, wave loungers will be installed at four prominent points this year - for relaxing with a view of the lake. A restaurant, the "R-Café", is also under construction on the northern shore.

TIP: Aasee Festival from 15-17 August

The weekend after next (15-17 August) is the next opportunity for Bocholt fans and guests to experience the Aasee and its new selfie point - at the big Aasee Festival in the bathing bay with music, entertainment and free admission ( www.bocholt.de/aaseefestival ).
