BookBike delivers books and media to your home

E-bike of the city library was solemnly inaugurated

On May 19, 2022, the city library's e-bike was ceremoniously inaugurated. As part of the distribution of the new "Lesestarter bags" at the St. Josef daycare center, the BOOK bike was officially presented as the library's delivery bike. The new transport bike also fulfills a contribution to more sustainability of the city administration.

The BookBike of the city library is now an official delivery bike for books and other media. On Thursday, May 19, it was ceremoniously inaugurated together with the St. Josef Catholic Kindergarten, environmental officer Angela Theurich and the Bocholt Public Library. The background was the distribution of the "Lesestarter bags", which are sponsored annually by the Stiftung Lesen (Reading Foundation) and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) to promote reading among preschool children.

A joint municipal project

Environmental officer Angela Theurich is very pleased about the new use of the municipal e-bike as a "BookBike" at the Bocholt public library. "It's great that this new area of use has been found," she says, "a nice community project." And the children and their educators were also very pleased about the possibility of soon being able to have books from the library delivered by BookBike. "Sometimes it's a bit difficult for us to come by and borrow books. Now, of course, with the bike, it's very easy and very convenient," said Mrs. Unland from St. Josef Kindergarten.

Book delivery for non-mobile people

The BookBike is now an integral part of the services offered by the municipal library and is aimed in particular at people who, for various reasons, cannot come to the library themselves. "We want to give all people, including those who are not mobile, the opportunity to borrow books and other media from us," says Claudia Alders, who lobbied for the project on behalf of the library. Library users and Bocholt institutions can place their orders by emailing stadtbibliothek(at)bocholt(dot)de or calling 02871 2589-0.
