About the author
Mona Ameziane grew up in the Ruhr region as the daughter of a German mother and a Moroccan father. She has spent most of her life in Germany and, apart from a school year in Agadir and family visits during the vacations, has had little contact with her Moroccan origins. At the joint semester opener of the Adult Education Center Bocholt-Rhede-Isselburg, the Family Education Center Bocholt and the Bocholt Public Library, the journalist will present her autobiographical debut novel "Auf Basidis Dach" (On Basidi's Roof), in which she explores the question of how much Morocco is in her. To this end, she embarks on a journey to her father's country of origin and discovers that, despite family ties, she often feels that she does not belong.
Insights into a Morocco that no travel guide can give
Her travel book gives its readers insights into the life and culture of Morocco and is at the same time accompanied by questions of identity that more and more families in Germany are facing. Observant, curious and always questioning herself, Ameziane cleverly and sympathetically tells in wonderful episodes about a Morocco that no travel guide could show us. Mona Ameziane is a freelance journalist and radio presenter at WDR. "On Basidi's Roof" is her first novel. The author grew up in Marl, in the Ruhr region.
