BOHJazz concert

The trio of jazz guitarist Christian Hassenstein plays every two months in the Appendix, the extension of the LernWerk at Industriestr. 1 in 46395 Bocholt. The guest soloist for this concert is Reiner Witzel on saxophone. This evening marks the 50th event in the concert series - half a century of lively jazz culture in Bocholt. The concert starts at 8 pm, admission is free. You are cordially invited to this extraordinary evening of inspiring sounds. Enjoy the special dynamics of this exciting musical combination of different musicians. The guest will be joined by Christian Hassenstein on guitar, René Marx on drums and Volker Heinze on double bass.

Düsseldorf saxophonist Reiner Witzel has been a fixture on the international jazz scene for many years. He studied in Cologne and New York, was a scholarship holder of the Ministry of Culture and has received numerous awards, including the Hennessy Jazz Award. Concert tours have taken him around the globe, with appearances at renowned festivals such as Montreux, San Jose, Odessa and Montevideo.

With his bands "Witzel's Venue" and "Three in the Red Circle", he has released several award-winning CDs with guests such as David Sanborn, Vernon Reid and Lew Soloff. Some of his productions reached the jazz charts in England and Japan.

Witzel has worked with well-known jazz and pop artists, including Dave Liebman, Roger Cicero, Udo Lindenberg, Third World and the "Supremes". He has also composed music for theatre and television. He teaches saxophone at the music academies in Maastricht, Düsseldorf and Frankfurt. He is also involved as a jazz festival organiser, advises instrument manufacturers and works as a photographer.
