London-based trombonist Rory Ingham is an absolutely exceptional talent. The "Rising Stars" winner of the British Jazz Awards is a bandleader, composer, teacher and, above all, a convincing soloist on his instrument in every respect. Whether with the BBC BigBand, the Passadena Roof Orchestra or with his own Trombone Assembly, you can regularly hear him at Ronnie Scott's Club, the Amsterdam Bimhuis or other important jazz stages and festivals in Europe.
I met Rory two years ago at a concert in Mainz under the direction of the British pianist Sam Hogarth. At that time, I immediately had the idea of presenting exactly this formation in Bocholt.
Sam Hogarth currently lives in Mainz and is also a phenomenon: he is first and foremost a conductor at the Mainz State Theatre but also a very good jazz pianist and composer. When I first met him, he was the conductor of the Cologne Children's Opera Ensemble. At that time I didn't realise that a gifted jazz pianist was standing in front of us and conducting. I later learnt to appreciate him as a pianist and we have now played many wonderful concerts together. I am delighted to be able to present him in Bocholt for once.
Drums will be played by Silvio Morger, a drummer from Cologne who comes from Basel.
