Training for volunteer carers on health care

Training programme "Gut geschult - Gut vertreten" // Free event organised by the working group for the care sector // Registration with SkF Bocholt required

The Working Group for the Care System invites you to a training course on the special features of health care on 7 May 2026. The free event is aimed at voluntary legal carers, authorised representatives and interested members of the public. The focus will be on legal principles and practical alternatives to measures that deprive people of their liberty.

The city of Bocholt would like to draw your attention to a special training offer that is taking place as part of the "Gut geschult - Gut vertreten" programme. On Thursday, 7 May 2026, the working group for the care system will provide information on central aspects of health care within care law from 18:30 to 21:00. The speaker will be Alina Reiberg, who has extensive practical experience as an employee of the Social Service of Catholic Women (SkF) care organisation and as a legal guardian.

A key focus of the evening will be on providing information about legal guardianship placements and measures to reduce restraints. Thanks to the establishment of the so-called "Werdenfelser Weg" and an increased focus on the responsible use of appropriate means, the number of measures involving deprivation of liberty has already fallen significantly in recent years. Nevertheless, volunteers and authorised representatives are often faced with complex decisions in practice, for example when senior citizens' facilities request the use of bed rails or a placement in closed wards such as geriatric wards is recommended.

The training course explains the legal requirements according to the German Civil Code and presents specific alternatives in order to preserve the self-determination of those affected and avoid restraints. It will show what support options are available and how co-operation with the agencies involved can be organised.

The event will take place in the barrier-free premises of the SkF Bocholt e.V. office at Langenbergstraße 18. It is a joint offer of the care authority of the city of Bocholt and the care associations of SkF and Arbeiterwohlfahrt. As participation is free of charge for all citizens, please register by calling 02871/25 18 220.
