City museum invites you to an action day for special exhibition

Action day on 21 June 2026 at the Crafts Museum invites you to get actively involved

The Bocholt City Museum invites the public to a day of action on Sunday, 21 June 2026, in the Crafts Museum. Between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., interested parties can actively participate in the design of the upcoming special exhibition "Schwere Schritte. Bocholt stories of flight and new beginnings". At the centre of the action is the joint twisting of ropes, which will later become a central component of the exhibition architecture.

The planned special exhibition, which will be on display from 6 August to 26 November 2026 in the annexe of the Lernwerk (Appendix), tells the stories of people in Bocholt who have experienced flight, displacement and settling into a new environment. The focus is on personal accounts from eyewitnesses, which bring to light individual experiences of loss, uncertainty, hope and new beginnings. The exhibition demonstrates that flight and migration are not merely global issues, but also shape both the history and present of Bocholt.

"The aim of the action day is to view the exhibition as a community project supported by the city's residents", explains Lisa Resing, director of the Bocholt City Museum. On 21 June 2026, from 10 am to 4 pm at the Bocholt Craft Museum, participants will work together to twist ropes, which will later form part of the exhibition's design surrounding the eyewitness accounts on display. "The ropes made collectively form a deliberate contrast to the rest of the design and are far more than just a decorative element. They symbolise connection, solidarity and the involvement of many people in the life stories being told", says Resing. By making them with their own hands, they create a visible symbol that behind every difficult step lies the hope of a new beginning.

The town of Bocholt and the Town Museum are calling on all interested parties to take this opportunity to combine a hands-on craft experience with cultural remembrance work. The project illustrates that coming to terms with the town's history becomes particularly vivid and accessible when many people get actively involved. Admission and participation in the event day are free of charge.
