Urban history discussion group: Migration in Münsterland since 1945

Lecture by Dr Christoph Lorke sheds light on immigration to Münsterland since 1945 and invites discussion

On Wednesday, 1 October 2025, the city of Bocholt invites you to the next city history discussion group at 6.30 pm in the media centre (Alter Bahnhof), Hindenburgstraße 5. This time, the focus will be on a lecture by historian Dr Christoph Lorke on the topic of "Migration in Münsterland since 1945: A workshop report".

Cemetery maintenance in memory of Jewish families in Bocholt // Year 10 project

The Jewish men and women from Bocholt, Rhede and Dingden who are buried in the Jewish cemetery have now been commemorated with a day of remembrance and action. Around 80 Year 10 pupils from the Euregio-Gymnasium school learnt about the history of this place of remembrance and then looked after the cemetery.

In 1914, the Catholic Journeymen's Association of Bocholt had a monument erected on the north side of St. George's Church in honour of the journeyman father Adolf Kolping. The annual honouring of the fallen took place there before the monument was desecrated by Austrian legionnaires from the Bocholt relief camp in April 1935.

Even before the First World War, the city fathers had been planning a local indoor swimming pool, but the project soon came to nothing. "80 years of the end of the war and a new beginning" - Exhibition is extended

Exhibition about the post-war period in Bocholt continues until Sunday, 8 June 2025 // Free admission

Due to the great interest, the exhibition "80 years end of war and new beginning" will be extended. It can be visited free of charge at LernWerk until 8 June. In addition, two guided tours are offered, registration is not required.

On this evening, the exhibition "80 years end of war and new beginning in Bocholt" will be opened and the project "Bocholter Zeitzeugen 2.0" will be presented.

The exhibition "And they were our neighbours... - Deportation of Jewish men, women and children to Riga 1941/1942" can now be experienced free of charge even after the end of the exhibition period. It will remain permanently available as a virtual 3D tour on the city museum's website.

On 1 April 1960, the Straßenverkehrs-Genossenschaft Westfalen-Lippe eGmbH (SVG) set up the so-called "Autohof Bocholt" on a site on Münsterstraße. The historical photo of the month of April shows the facility in 1962.
