City of Bocholt catches up on sports honours

Successes in cycling, bouldering and roller skating honoured // Special recognition for exceptional talents from Bocholt

Bocholt's head of sports Björn Volmering has now honoured three successful athletes retrospectively for their outstanding sporting achievements. The award winners were unable to attend the official "Sport and Culture" action day in person in September. The ceremonial presentation of the trophies and prize money has now taken place on the premises of the city council on Kaiser-Wilhelm-Straße.

At a small reception, the First City Councillor honoured the achievements of Phil Bauhaus, Juli Becker and Vivian Langert, who were unable to attend the original ceremony in late summer.

Björn Volmering emphasised the importance of the athletes as representatives of the sports enthusiasts in the city of Bocholt. He expressed his thanks to those present and the city's pride in the successes achieved, which are closely followed by many citizens.

"You as sportsmen and sportswomen carry the name of Bocholt far beyond the city limits and are important ambassadors for our vibrant sports culture", said Volmering. Among those honoured is professional cyclist Phil Bauhaus, who was born in Bocholt in 1994 and still lives there today.

The professional cyclist, who competes for the Bahrain Victorious team, achieved several top ten finishes in the daily rankings at the Tour de France 2024. He began his sporting career in his youth with RC 77 Bocholt, which he was a member of from 2004 to 2012.

Boulderer Juli Becker, who was born in 2012, was also honoured. The athlete is active for the DAV Bocholt section and won the gold medal at the Open Hessian State Championships in bouldering in the U15 age group in 2025. Due to her achievements, she has been a member of the national junior squad since January 2025. Although she lives in Kleve, she competes successfully for the Bocholt club.

The third of the honourees is roller skater Vivian Langert. The athlete, who competes for RKB Solidarität Bocholt, secured the title of German champion in the individual master class in 2024. She ended her active career at the World Sport Games in Greece in 2025 by winning the silver medal as part of the German team. Vivian Langert will remain involved in the sport and her club as a coach and through her work on the board of RKB Solidarität Bocholt.
