Experienced teacher to head Bocholt secondary school in future
The city of Bocholt has officially welcomed Anke Meilwes as the new headmistress of the Arnold Janssen School. The 43-year-old teacher has been in charge of the Bocholt secondary school since February. During an inaugural visit to the town hall, she presented her priorities for future educational work.
The city of Bocholt is delighted to announce a new appointment at the head of the Arnold Janssen School. Anke Meilwes was welcomed to her new role at an official reception in the office of Head of Schools Björn Volmering. Dirk Lueg as Head of the School and Sport Department, Jonas Bühs as Head of the School Division and School Board Director Michael Ballmann also took part in the exchange.
The new headteacher can look back on an extensive career in education. After studying German and biology at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster, she completed her traineeship at Ascheberg secondary school. Since 2008, the mother of two has worked at the Dietrich Bonhoeffer School in Recklinghausen, where she has held the position of vice headmaster since 2020. Her main areas of work there included managing the trial level and developing media, reading and inclusion concepts.
During the interview, Anke Meilwes emphasised the extremely positive contact with her predecessor and the school's teaching staff. "I received an extremely warm welcome straight away, for which I can only say thank you", said Meilwes. The school team at the Arnold Janssen School is very committed. "I am delighted to be working with them", says Anke Meilwes.
She made a conscious decision in favour of the Bocholt secondary school: at the Arnold Janssen School, she wants to deepen the relationship work, focusing on practical orientation and career choice preparation for the young people. At the same time, Meilwes sees school "as a place to live where pupils feel taken seriously and safe", says the headmistress. "Participation and shared responsibility of young people should therefore be further strengthened in everyday school life", says Meilwes.
"With Anke Meilwes, the Arnold Janssen School is gaining an experienced leader who will enrich the school landscape in Bocholt with her pedagogical expertise and her focus on individual support", Head of Schools Björn Volmering is certain. "We wish Mrs Meilwes a good start at her new school", says Volmering.
