Travelling exhibition from the German Bundestag visits Bocholt

Travelling exhibition by the Bundestag from 14 to 18 September at the Hohe-Giethorst School // Multimedia insights into parliamentary work // Special activities and discussion sessions for school classes // Free admission for anyone interested

How does the German Parliament work, and what are the duties of its Members? Answers to these questions are provided by the German Bundestag's newly designed travelling exhibition, which will be on display at the Hohe-Giethorst-Schule in Bocholt from Monday 14 September to Friday 18 September 2026. The exhibition, which is open to the public, is aimed at all citizens and, in particular, at school groups.

12 new bus attendants for the 2026/2027 school year

Twelve pupils from Year 8 at the Euregio Gymnasium, the St. Georg Gymnasium and the Hohe-Giethorst-Schule have been trained as bus monitors this year. They will take up their voluntary roles at the start of the 2026/2027 school year. This brings the total number of active bus monitors in the current school year to 49.

The School Committee, at a special meeting, and the Committee for Digitalisation, IT and Innovation, at its regular meeting, approved an amendment on the use of centralised cloud services, which had been jointly initiated and supported by the CDU, Alliance 90/The Greens and the SPD.

City welcomes new headmistress at Arnold Janssen School

Experienced teacher to head Bocholt secondary school in future

The city of Bocholt has officially welcomed Anke Meilwes as the new headmistress of the Arnold Janssen School. The 43-year-old teacher has been in charge of the Bocholt secondary school since February. During an inaugural visit to the town hall, she presented her priorities for future educational work.

Black ice warning: No face-to-face lessons in schools on Monday

State-wide decision by the Ministry of Education // Distance learning instead of face-to-face teaching on Mondays

Due to a severe weather warning from the German Weather Service, there will be no face-to-face lessons at schools in Bocholt on Monday, 12 January 2026. The Ministry of Schools and Education of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia has made this state-wide decision due to the threat of black ice. Instead of on-site lessons, learning will take place remotely for all pupils.

Pilot project for clean toilets starts at Bocholt comprehensive school

School toilets are among the most sensitive areas of everyday school life and pose particular challenges for many schools. At Bocholt Comprehensive School, too, there is occasionally a need for additional action in heavily frequented sanitary areas. The school is therefore now implementing a pilot project, which was made possible by a fundraising run by the school community.

Around 20 pupils from the Israhel van Meckenem School lent a helping hand at Bocholt's main cemetery on Wednesday afternoon. As part of their project "Taking Responsibility - Living with Death", they helped visitors to the cemetery with grave maintenance and got talking to them.

Rap against hatred and exclusion: pupils produce their own song

Co-operation project between Arnold-Janssen-Hauptschule, JUBoh and VHS sends a strong signal for respect and tolerance

Last week, a classroom at the Arnold-Janssen-Hauptschule in Bocholt was transformed into a small recording studio: eight seventh-grade pupils produced their own song against hatred, racism and exclusion together with rapper and workshop lecturer Dennis Buss. The project was organised by the Junge Uni in Bocholt (JUBoh) in cooperation with the Volkshochschule Bocholt-Rhede-Isselburg (VHS).
