FW Bocholt: Autumn storm leads to numerous call-outs for the Bocholt Fire Brigade

Bocholt (ots) -

Storm Luise kept the Bocholt Fire Brigade busy with numerous weather-related call-outs from Friday evening through to Saturday. By Saturday afternoon, they had dealt with a total of around 25 call-outs. The ambulance service was called upon relatively little.

Between Friday evening and the change of shift on Saturday morning at 08:00, the Bocholt Fire Brigade was called out to seven weather- and storm-related incidents. These mainly involved clearing dangerous overhanging branches, as well as trees and shrubs that had already fallen, from roads and pavements.
The situation remained tense as Saturday progressed. Initially, the focus remained on clearing up storm damage in public transport areas. Around midday, the fire brigade was also called out to provide technical assistance after fuel had leaked from the fuel tank of a car.
At the same time, an emergency call was received regarding a fire in the Fischerweg area. Members of the Volunteer Fire Brigade were called in to provide support. On arrival, it transpired that rubbish was burning over an area of approximately five square metres. The fire was quickly extinguished using a fire hose.
Due to the large number of call-outs, one unit from the volunteer fire brigade remained at the fire and rescue station to support the full-time crew in managing the situation. The Suderwick fire brigade was also called out and was busy clearing up storm damage as part of the emergency response.

In total, around 30 members of the Bocholt Fire Brigade were deployed with seven vehicles.
The emergency services received support from the City of Bocholt's Waste Management and Services Department (ESB). On Saturday morning, the department was out and about in the city and independently cleared hazardous areas.

It was a relatively quiet period for the Bocholt Fire Brigade's ambulance service. They were called out to six incidents, treating patients at the scene or transporting them to nearby hospitals for further treatment.
