The special film: "Urgewald - Following the Money"

The film shows how "Urgewald e.V" grew out of a small flat-share initiative in North Rhine-Westphalia and became an influential organisation that exposes global financial flows from banks and large corporations. The documentary is presented in collaboration with EUROPE DIRECT Bocholt. Afterwards, there will be an opportunity for an open discussion with a member of the organisation.

Environmental destruction and human rights abuses - behind them are often large corporations and banks that use our money. For over thirty years, the environmental and human rights organisation Urgewald e.V. has been exposing such financial flows and resisting destruction and displacement. The organisation has prevented forced resettlements, halted the construction of a nuclear power station and blocked loans for cluster munitions. The documentary provides an insight into its work, origins and history.

A member of the organisation will provide additional information before and after the screening and will be available to answer questions. 

The film runs for 65 minutes. It was directed by Karin and Peter Wejdling.

The film series "KINO Bocholt - the special film" has been running since 1977 as a collaboration between the City of Bocholt's Department of Culture and Education and the Kinodrom Bocholt. The aim is to make exceptional films - which would not otherwise feature in the regular programme - accessible to a wide audience. Selected productions are usually screened once a month on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month.
