"Heat pump - heat transition": VHS lecture at the media centre

Expert lecture provides information on technology, costs and funding opportunities

The Bocholt-Rhede-Isselburg Adult Education Centre invites you to a lecture evening on Tuesday, 7 October 2025, at the Bocholt Media Centre, Hindenburgstraße 5. It starts at 7 pm. Under the title "Heat pump/heat turnaround - Why act NOW and not wait?", speaker Michael Birkhan will give an overview of current issues relating to the use of heat pumps in residential buildings.

Heat pumps are regarded as a key component in the energy and heating transition. In several European countries, especially in Scandinavia, they have been used for many years in both new and existing buildings. The presentation takes up these developments and focusses on the transferability to German framework conditions.

Various technical variants of heat pumps will be discussed, as well as issues relating to costs, installation in existing buildings and the available funding opportunities. In addition, profitability calculations are presented that can provide planning and decision-making aids. The combination of heat pumps with photovoltaic systems, storage systems and electromobility will also be demonstrated.

Speaker Michael Birkhan has more than 30 years of experience in dealing with heat pump technology. Among other things, he will report from his own practical experience, as he operates an air-to-water heat pump in a partially renovated old building.

The participation fee is 6 euros, reduced 5 euros. Registration via www.vhs-bocholt.de is recommended as it is linked to a seat reservation. Last-minute travellers can obtain remaining tickets at the box office on the evening of the event.
