"Comedians wanted": VHS kicks off the new term with a comedy programme

The Bocholt-Rhede-Isselburg Adult Education Centre (VHS) is kicking off the new term on Monday, 7 September 2026, with a varied programme. As well as numerous courses in the areas of health, languages, creativity, careers and society, participants can look forward to a special evening to mark the start of the term: On Tuesday, 8 September 2026, at 7 pm, the LernWerk Bocholt presents "LAUGHTER SOUGHT%$.

The VHS managed to secure the comedian Serhat Dogan for the start of the term. Born in Cologne, the artist grew up in Turkey and returned to Germany in 2005 after completing his studies. Since then, he has been collecting stories about life, cultural differences and the little absurdities of everyday life, which he brings to the stage with great charm and a keen sense of observation.

In his show "LAUGHTER WANTED - Best of", Serhat Dogan combines incisive satire with personal stories and humorous observations. Family quirks, everyday misunderstandings and cultural differences are transformed into humorous points of common ground. The audience can look forward to an evening full of laughter, spontaneous entertainment and heart-warming stories.

""We would like to kick off our new term with an event that brings people together whilst also offering a taste of what VHS stands for: connection, new perspectives and, of course, the joy of learning and experiencing things together,"" says VHS Director Isabel Testroet.

The term launch will take place on Tuesday, 8 September 2026, at 7 pm in the event hall at LernWerk, Industriestraße 1, 46395 Bocholt. The venue is wheelchair accessible. Admission costs 12 euros in advance or when booking online; a reduced rate of 6 euros applies to school pupils, students and apprentices. At the box office, admission costs 15 euros, with a reduced rate of 7.50 euros. The event can be booked under course number BW1102.

Registration for the start of the term and numerous other VHS courses is still open. The new term once again demonstrates just how varied the VHS programme is: anyone wishing to try something new can, for example, attend a taster golf course. A range of educational leave options are available for professional and personal development. The range extends from creative courses to Japanese and even therapeutic fasting for healthy individuals. The programme also includes very practical topics - such as "First Steps on a PC" or "Marketing for Childminding".
