Summer Reading Club 2026 at the City Library
Registration opens for the 2026 Summer Reading Club // Free book loans, workshops and events // Starts on 21 July 2026
Bocholt Municipal Library invites book lovers and creative types to sign up for this year's Summer Reading Club (SLC). This free holiday programme is open to anyone of any age who would like to explore the library, take part in exciting events and collect stamps towards a 'Reading Oscar'. It kicks off on 21 July, and registration is now open.
For six weeks, it'll be all about reading, listening, playing, doing crafts and discovering new things together. Whether on your own, with friends or as a family - everyone is warmly invited to join the Summer Reading Club and make the most of the library's wide range of activities.
Reading and collecting stamps
The Summer Reading Club focuses on the joy of reading and shared creativity. Using the SLC logbook, participants can collect stamps for books they've read or listened to, create their own artistic contributions or record their personal reading experiences. The popular reading boxes are also back as part of the programme. Anyone who wishes to can design their reading box or logbook during the holidays with the help of the craft van in the library.
The best and most creative entries will be honoured at the grand Oskar Gala on 25 September 2026. As well as the presentation of the coveted Reading Oskars, visitors can look forward to an interactive reading with Lisa Engels from "Nelson Schreck%$.
""The Summer Reading Club combines reading, creativity and community in a very special way,"" says Claudia Alders from Bocholt Municipal Library. ""We've once again organised lots of exciting events this year and are looking forward to enjoying a varied summer together with the children and young people," she explains.
A varied programme of events
Once again this year, the team at the Bocholt Municipal Library has put together a varied holiday programme. Among other things, participants can produce their own stop-motion film, design rainbow coasters, gain their first programming experience with the "Intelino" train, or create a banana piano with "Makey Makey%$.
Gaming fans can look forward to gaming afternoons on the Nintendo Switch 2 and the PlayStation 5, as well as the big Mario Kart Cup. Those who enjoy tinkering and solving puzzles can put their skills to the test in the escape games "Ratte Rieke" and "Glitch%$.
Creative projects
The programme also includes creative craft activities such as designing bags, holiday photo frames, bracelets and beaded necklaces. The programme is complemented by summer cinema mornings, games days, picture book screenings followed by craft sessions, and the digital creative project "Draw Your Game", where participants develop their own games using paper, pen and an app.
Special projects will also take place again during the summer holidays: as part of Schreibland NRW, children and young people can take part in a multi-day writing workshop alongside the author Akram El-Bahay. In the Kulturrucksack project "Ecosystem on Poles with Masi", participants will build an exciting nature project featuring a nesting box, an insect hotel and an observation station. Furthermore, as part of the "Locked @ Home" project, all participants can even design their very own escape room together with the team from Mission House Bocholt.
