Bocholt City Library donates 1,440 euros to Gerburgis House

Proceeds from traditional Easter book flea market // Support for the Gerburgis Mother-Father-Child House

Following the successful Easter book flea market at Bocholt City Library, this year's proceeds of 1,440 euros were handed over to the Gerburgis Mother-Father-Child House. The donations will be used specifically to promote early childhood reading and to strengthen the media skills of the children cared for there. This support will sustainably facilitate access to education and language at the centre.

During the Easter holidays, the city library held a donation-based book flea market alongside its holiday programme. Visitors had the opportunity to purchase well-preserved media for a voluntary donation and support a local social project at the same time. This spring, the Gerburgis Mother-Father-Child House was chosen as the recipient of the donation.

The total sum of 1,440 euros will be used at the centre to promote children's language and media skills through play. The plan is to purchase reading aloud and first-reading books that will make it easier for children to start reading independently. The range is also to be expanded to include interactive media such as Tiptoi pens and the corresponding books. In the area of audio media, Tonie boxes as well as speech and audio figures are planned to support children's language development.

The symbolic cheque was handed over during an on-site visit. "With this donation, we not only want to support the Gerburgis Mother-Father-Child House, but also send a signal of recognition for the valuable work that is carried out with a lot of heart and commitment together with the Caritas team and the cooperating organisations", emphasised Björn Volmering as the first city councillor of the city of Bocholt. Together with Jule Wanders, Head of the Department of Culture and Education, Volmering symbolically handed over the donation cheque for 1440 euros to Simone Zingel, Head of the Gerburgis Mother-Father-Child House, who then explained the goals and areas of activity of the facility.
