FW Bocholt: Fire in the basement of a block of flats - five people taken to hospital
Bocholt Fire Brigade (ots) -
Last night at 02:51, the Bocholt Fire Brigade was called out to a basement fire in a block of flats on Prinz-Eugen-Straße.
When the emergency services arrived, a fire was visible in a basement room of the building. The stairwell was filled with smoke. Some residents had already left the building unaided and were outside. Other residents were still in their flats at that time.
Given the situation on the ground, additional full-time and volunteer firefighters were called out.
The residents outside were looked after and attended to by the ambulance service and the police.
Once the stairwell was clear of smoke, a further six people were safely guided out of the building.
The fire in the basement was quickly extinguished by the emergency services. Subsequently, the emergency services carried out mop-up operations and ventilation measures in the basement area.
The ambulance service treated a total of five people, including two adults and three children, and transported them to a hospital in Bocholt for further medical care due to suspected smoke inhalation.
Once the fire-extinguishing and ventilation operations had been completed, the residents were able to return to their flats.
The scene was subsequently handed over to the criminal investigation department, which has taken over further investigations into the cause of the fire.
The fire service and the emergency medical services of the town of Bocholt were on the scene for two hours with 35 personnel and eight vehicles.
