The special film "Yellow letters"

As part of the "KINO Bocholt - der besondere Film" series, the drama "Gelbe Briefe" will be shown on Tuesday, 23 June 2026. The film depicts the effects of state reprisals on an artist couple. The loss of their professional existence is followed by the danger of losing themselves as a couple. A universal story played with great sensitivity by Tansu Biçer and Özgü Namal and directed by İlker Çatak (Das Lehrerzimmer). The film was set in Berlin for Ankara and Hamburg for Istanbul.
Derya and Aziz are a respected theatre couple in Ankara and lead a fulfilling life with their 13-year-old daughter. But after the successful premiere of their latest play, their lives are unexpectedly thrown off course by arbitrary state action. Overnight, they lose their jobs and thus their livelihood. Now they are faced with the challenge of reconciling their ideals and convictions with the real demands of life. The sudden unemployment jeopardises not only their financial security, but also their marriage. As they search together for new ways to continue their careers, they have to deal with the conflict between their ideals and the practical demands of everyday life. The external pressure and constant uncertainty put increasing strain on their relationship.

The film series "KINO Bocholt - the special film" has existed since 1977 as a cooperation between the Department of Education and Culture of the City of Bocholt and Kinodrom Bocholt. The aim is to make unusual films that are not otherwise shown in the regular programme accessible to a wide audience. As a rule, selected productions are shown every second and fourth Tuesday of the month. Admission is €7.
