Christmas campaign launched for Ukrainian children
Together with "Helfende Hände" and other partners, the city of Bocholt is calling for the annual Christmas parcel campaign for Verkhniodniprovsk. The gifts are intended to reach children and young people in the Ukrainian twin town at Christmas and send a message of solidarity. The parcels can be handed in until 10 December.
Once again this year, the city of Bocholt is taking part in the "Bocholt hilft Werchniodniprowsk" campaign with the support of numerous committed groups, including the Rotary Club Bocholt with a generous donation. The aim is to bring a little joy to children and young people from the Ukrainian twin town at Christmas. The solidarity partnership between the two cities has existed since the beginning of the Russian war of aggression and has been continuously strengthened by aid campaigns ever since.
"A personal gift is an important sign of humanity, especially in times of uncertainty and war. Every donation shows the young people in Verkhniodniprovsk that they are not forgotten", emphasises Mayor Christian Mangen.
Citizens are asked to fill a shoebox with new gifts, wrap it in wrapping paper and attach a list of the contents with the number and weight on the outside. This is necessary due to customs regulations. It should also be noted whether the parcel is intended for a girl or a boy and for which age group (0-5, 6-10, 11-16 years). Information and forms are available online on this page and at the Volunteer Agency. Empty boxes can also be collected there if required. In consultation with Verkhniodniprovsk, suitable items include writing and craft materials, toys and care products. Warm winter clothing such as gloves, hats or scarves are also welcome. Used or defective items, electronic devices, batteries, war toys, food, medicines and liquid or fragile items are not permitted.
The parcels can be handed in until Wednesday, 10 December 2025, at the Bocholt Volunteer Agency and at the city council information desk in the Gigaset building. Both locations can be reached during the opening hours stated. It is important that the parcels are handed in fully packed and accompanied by the completed customs list. Transport will take place on 14 December 2025 via the Blau Gelbe Kreuz e.V. Cologne. A lorry will take the parcels directly to the Ukrainian twin city so that they can be distributed in time for Christmas.
"Many small gifts add up to great support for the local children and families," says Mayor Christian Mangen, thanking everyone for their participation in the campaign. "The great willingness to help from the Bocholt population in recent years shows how important solidarity is in difficult times."
