"Mouse Mobile" supports Edith Stein Hospice

Cheque for 1,000 euros handed over // Donations from year-round technology advice for senior citizens

The volunteer group "Mouse Mobil" presented a donation of 1,000 euros to the Edith Stein Hospice on Monday. The sum comes from voluntary contributions collected over the course of the year during the technical consultation hours for older people. With the donation, the volunteers are supporting the care of seriously ill and dying people in Bocholt.

The commitment of the "Mouse Mobile" group has two positive effects in Bocholt. On the one hand, the tech-savvy volunteers regularly support senior citizens in using their smartphones, tablets or laptops. Secondly, the financial proceeds from this work now benefit a social organisation. The group, which is supported by the city of Bocholt's senior citizens' office, does not charge a fee for its counselling services. Instead, a piggy bank is available during the open consultation hours, which has been filled by the grateful people seeking advice over the course of the year.

At the handover ceremony on 15 December 2025, a member of the "Mouse Mobile" group emphasised that the motivation for their efforts was not financial. Rather, it was a pleasure to enable older people to participate digitally and to reduce their fears of technology. As the group itself did not want to keep the donations for itself, the decision was quickly made to donate the sum of 1,000 euros to a charitable cause in Bocholt. The local hospice was the unanimous choice.

"The digital world can be complicated, but human solidarity is very simple", says Franz Klein-Vorholt from the "Mouse Mobil" group, "it is important to us that the money donated to us as thanks for our work has an impact in a place where it is urgently needed."

Lukas Tekampe, Director of the Edith Stein Hospice, accepted the cheque and expressed his thanks for the appreciation of the hospice's work. He emphasised that donations such as this enable the facility to fund services that go beyond simply financing care and can fulfil the last wishes or special comforts of hospice guests. The combination of digital help for senior citizens and support for the hospice shows how diverse the volunteer network in Bocholt is, he said. "Every donation helps us to provide our guests with a dignified and secure time. The fact that volunteers support other volunteers is a great sign for Bocholt", explained Tekampe.

The "Mouse Mobile" initiative is an integral part of senior citizen work in Bocholt. The volunteers offer their help on a low-threshold basis and thus help to ensure that the older generation does not lose touch with digital communication. Anyone interested in supporting the group can contact Sarah Bußmann at the City of Bocholt's senior citizens' office on 02871 953-2342 or via email at bussmann(at)bocholt(dot)de or drop by during the public consultation hours.
