Ravardistraße: New planning now online

Ravardistraße, Bocholt's well-known gastro and pub mile, is to be redesigned. After the public online conference in January, the planning can now be viewed on the participation platform of the city of Bocholt at the address www.gestalten.bocholt.de. Ideas and suggestions can still be submitted there until February 25, 2022, the administration says.

The comments will then be examined and taken into account in the further planning process.

Goal: Making the city center more attractive

The redesign of Ravardistraße is a key project within the framework of the integrated action concept for the city center to increase the attractiveness of Bocholt's city center. The aim is to upgrade the public space, make outdoor gastronomy more attractive and improve traffic routing.

The current planning status envisages the biggest change in traffic routing. It is intended that in the future there will be no access to the underground parking garage Europaplatz from Ravardistraße and only bicycle and bus traffic will be able to drive between Europaplatz and Ravardistraße. In addition, the road surface is to be narrowed to the minimum size and the speed reduced to a maximum of 20 km/h.

City planning officer Daniel Zöhler sees the potential for a considerable upgrade: "This will allow a large square area to be created in the area where the light column currently stands, which can be used for recreation and outdoor catering. In particular, it is then also possible to enlarge the pedestrian area on all sides of the street to allow additional outdoor catering in front of the restaurants there."

The offices of Bockermann Fritze IngenieurConsult GmbH and Kortemeier Brokmann Landschaftsarchitekten GmbH have been commissioned by the city of Bocholt with the planning. In the past months, first variants of a possible redesign have been developed by the offices in cooperation with the city of Bocholt. In a digital information meeting the planning for the transformation of the Ravardistraße was presented in the past week. Around 50 interested parties took part.
