Mariengymnasium's European exhibition opened

Exhibition takes place for the 13th time // Exhibits on display in the media centre until 5 June and in the Stadtsparkasse until 29 May

Once again this year, pupils from the Mariengymnasium Bocholt European School have artistically explored European themes. Under the direction of art teacher Daglef Seeger, this time the pupils addressed the question: "What expectations, hopes, but also critical questions and fears do young people in NRW associate with the future of Europe?". The exhibition is being held for the 13th time.

The European exhibition is part of the European work at the Mariengymnasium European School. A discussion event with Mayor Christian Mangen and the year 10 classes took place on 5 May. The pupils came up with questions in a European context, which the mayor answered. The event was accompanied by music from a year 10 music course, which had rehearsed the European anthem, among other things.

Opening ceremony in the media centre and the Stadtsparkasse bank

The first part of the European exhibition was opened in the media centre on 7 May. Deputy Mayor Gudrun Koppers paid tribute to the work of the pupils: she thanked the art teacher in charge, Daglef Seeger, for his commitment to repeatedly addressing European topics. She also thanked EUROPE DIRECT Bocholt for its cooperation with the European exhibition. Headmistress Ruth Sonntag expressed her hope that Europe will continue to flourish thanks to the commitment of young people.

The second part of the exhibition was opened last Monday in the main branch of Stadtsparkasse Bocholt. Bocholt's mayor Christian Mangen, Klaus Landsmann, head of the private banking department of the Stadtsparkasse and chairman of the Euregio Art Circle, the headmistress of the Mariengymnasium Ruth Maria Sonntag and art teacher Daglef Seeger addressed words of thanks and appreciation to the pupils. Some of the works had been completed outside of lessons in their free time. The artworks clearly show that many young people are concerned about possible wars and environmental pollution.

The pupils created their three-dimensional exhibits in small groups, often using wire mesh and papier-mâché. However, they also created works of art from other materials, wrote a poem and made an aquarium from Perspex.

Exhibition times

The exhibition can be viewed in the Media Centre until 5 June and in the Stadtsparkasse until 29 May, always during the opening hours of the respective institutions. Further exhibits will be on display in the Mariengymnasium itself during the anniversary week from 22 to 27 June.

Sponsorship

The exhibition was supported by the state initiative Europa-Checks of the Minister for Federal and European Affairs, International Affairs and Media and Head of the State Chancellery of North Rhine-Westphalia. Support was also provided by the Friends of the Mariengymnasium, the city of Bocholt and EUROPE DIRECT Bocholt.
