Pupils help with grave maintenance at the main cemetery
Project "Taking responsibility - living with death" // Pupils from the Israhel van Meckenem School will help with grave maintenance at Bocholt's main cemetery on 29 October
On Wednesday, 29 October 2025, around 20 pupils from Year 8 at the Israhel van Meckenem School will be offering assistance with grave care at Bocholt's main cemetery on Blücherstraße. Between 2 and 5 p.m., they will help visitors with the preparations for All Saints' Day and seek dialogue with them.
As part of the project "Taking Responsibility - Living with Death", the 8th graders of the Israhel-van-Meckenem School will be volunteering at Bocholt's main cemetery next Wednesday. Around 20 young people will be offering their support with grave care. The aim of the campaign is to help people who want to prepare the resting places of their loved ones for All Saints' Day - especially older people who are physically impaired or need help.
In addition to providing practical support, the pupils also focus on personal dialogue with visitors to the cemetery. The conversations are intended to strengthen social skills and promote a more conscious approach to topics such as death and responsibility.
Entsorgungs- und Servicebetrieb Bocholt (ESB), which is responsible for maintaining Bocholt's cemetery, welcomes the school's commitment and provides organisational support for the project. "With this campaign, young people are showing that dealing with death and mourning is also part of our social interaction", explains Heinz Welberg, Operations Manager at ESB.
Interested visitors to the cemetery are invited to take advantage of the offer on Wednesdays between 2 and 5 pm.
