The "STADTRADELN 2026" in the Borken district is now over and the results speak for themselves: This year, 19,706 cyclists in 922 teams covered a total of 2,855,040 kilometres. This is 758,338 kilometres less than a year ago (2025: 3,613,378), but: "For the very changeable and rather wet weather conditions during the 21 days of the campaign, the citizens have once again achieved a sensational result", emphasises District Administrator Dr Kai Zwicker. The Borken district has so far been ranked 1st in Germany in its category "inhabitants up to 499,999".
Important information: The ranking is provisional, as the campaign will not take place in some districts and municipalities until later in the year. Nevertheless, District Administrator Dr Kai Zwicker, District Traffic Officer Dr Elisabeth Schwenzow and Markus Elfering, Head of the Traffic Safety and Education Department at Borken District, agree: " Even if the final ranking is not yet in the bag, the cyclists can be very proud of their achievement!"
Many citizens in the Borken district collected kilometre after kilometre from 1 May to 21 May 2026 as part of the "STADTRADELN" campaign of the "Klima-Bündnis".

Background
"STADTRADELN" is a campaign of the "Climate Alliance", in which more than 2,800 cities, municipalities and districts in 28 countries have joined forces to protect the global climate. In Germany alone, hundreds of thousands of citizens, including many local politicians, cycled for three weeks in a row from May of this year onwards and together collected kilometres by bike for "a good climate". At the same time, they are doing their own health a favour and providing impetus for increased cycling promotion in their respective local communities. Finally, the most bicycle-active local parliaments and municipalities nationwide and the most hard-working teams and cyclists locally will be recognised and rewarded.
