Manga Day 2026 at Bocholt Municipal Library

26 September, 10 am to 1 pm // Free manga to take away at the city library // Creative diamond painting workshop

On Saturday 26 September 2026, Bocholt Municipal Library will be celebrating this year's Manga Day from 10 am to 1 pm. Anyone interested can look forward to free, extensive reading samples of selected manga, as well as a creative diamond painting workshop. Participation in the activities is free of charge. Registration is required for the workshop.

Every year, Manga Day takes place across Germany, with numerous comic shops, bookshops and libraries taking part through creative events and activities. The initiative gives anyone interested the chance to immerse themselves in the world of iconic Japanese comics free of charge and to celebrate their enthusiasm for manga together.

"Manga have long been an integral part of reading culture and captivate people of all ages", explains library staff member Romina Raske. "Manga Day offers a great opportunity to get to know manga as a versatile form of literature and art, whilst also addressing aspects of media education. By combining reading, visual design and their own creativity, children and young people can discover different ways of engaging with media and stories", she explains.

Extensive free reading samples of selected manga

On Manga Day, all fans and those simply curious can look forward to a wide selection of extensive reading samples from selected manga. From 10 am to 1 pm, various titles will be available to take away free of charge at the information desk on the ground floor of the library. Various publishers are taking part in the event, ensuring a colourful mix is available every year. All visitors can choose between popular classics and brand-new series, and are allowed to select a total of three titles per person - whilst stocks last.

Diamond Painting: A Creative Trend in a Workshop

Diamond painting is enjoying great popularity as a creative trend. Similar to paint-by-numbers, small, glittering stones are placed onto a self-adhesive surface according to a given pattern. Step by step, this creates colourful and detailed designs.

For children aged 8 and over, the City Library is offering a free diamond painting workshop on Manga Day. Participants can design stickers, pendants or bookmarks using diamond painting and give their creativity a go. The workshop combines creative design with concentration, fine motor skills and the ability to create a design independently.

Registration

The workshop will take place on Saturday, 26 September 2026, from 10.00 am to 11.30 am at Bocholt Municipal Library. The workshop is open to children aged 8 and over. As places are limited, free registration is required via the City of Bocholt's booking platform at anny.eu/de-formal/book/manga-day-workshop-sey0qspahu.
