"Bocholt reads!" - Read & Eat: Read and enjoy
French literature and delicacies in the Bocholt City Library
With an atmospheric evening full of French flavours, literary classics and cultural exchange, Bocholt City Library impressively continued its popular "Read & Eat" enjoyment series on Thursday. Under the motto "Read and Enjoy - French Literature and Delicacies", numerous literature and food lovers came together in the foyer of the city library.
From 7.00 p.m., the venue was already filled with visitors who were looking forward to an evening of French food culture and literary highlights. From 7:30 pm, the team from the city library led through an enjoyable programme that combined culinary delights from French cuisine with selected texts, important authors and well-known film classics.
The programme focused on works by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, Jean-Paul Didierlaurent and Martin Walker, whose stories, thoughts and characters took the audience on a journey through the "savoir-vivre" of France. The literary programme was complemented by matching delicatessen variations put together for the evening by the La Vita restaurant in Werk II. The guests savoured aromatic French snacks that harmonised with the literary impressions.
A special highlight of the evening was the variety of media presented - from classics of world literature and current novels to informative travel literature and well-known French feature films. This broad selection showed how different approaches to literature can be.
In her welcoming address, library director Melanie Tenhumberg emphasised the importance of media and genre diversity in today's literature education: "Our aim is to get people excited about the entire spectrum of literature - from poetry, crime fiction and classics to graphic novels, film productions and digital formats. Events such as 'Read & Eat' show how lively, enjoyable and diverse cultural encounters can be."
With the atmospheric France evening, the "Bocholt reads" series once again showed how surprising and inspiring literature education can be. The format, organised in cooperation with the VHS Bocholt-Rhede-Isselburg and the Förderverein der VHS Bocholt-Rhede-Isselburg, Stadtbibliothek and JUNGE UNI, is becoming increasingly popular and will be continued in the future with new topics and culinary highlights.
