Students get to know the city and region // Night watchman tour through the city centre
The city of Bocholt welcomed young medical students on Wednesday evening with a night watchman's tour of the city centre and a warm reception.
Last week, the junior doctors started their practical assignments as part of the "Hand auf's Herz - Praxismonat Allgemeinmedizin" project and the Westmünsterland Clinic summer camp. Together with the Borken district, the hospital and the BOHRIS doctors' network, the city took the opportunity to give the students their first impressions of Bocholt and familiarise them with the region.
A total of eleven students are currently taking part in the projects in the region. Three of them are completing their training in Ahaus as part of the "Hand auf's Herz - Praxismonat Allgemeinmedizin" project: one0 student is working at the Klinikum Westmünsterland hospital in Ahaus and two others in GP practices in Ahaus. Eight students are part of the Westmünsterland Clinic's summer camp and work for several weeks in various specialist departments at St. Agnes Hospital Bocholt.
The students took the opportunity to share their experiences in the various specialist departments in a relaxed atmosphere. "The relaxed atmosphere made it possible to have not only professional but also personal discussions. It's nice to see how quickly the young doctors make contacts here and feel welcome in Bocholt", reports Lisa Knuf, project coordinator for the city of Bocholt. She emphasises the importance of the close cooperation between the city, the Westmünsterland Clinic and the Borken district in supporting the young doctors. Together with her colleagues Sarah Underberg (Ärztenetz BOHRIS e. V.), Anja Hoves (Klinikum Westmünsterland) and Regina Kasteleiner (Kreis Borken), Knuf is committed to ensuring that the students receive the best possible support and feel that they are in good hands in Bocholt.
The city of Bocholt has been actively supporting initiatives to recruit young medical talent for many years. The aim of the joint endeavours is to secure the next generation of doctors in the Borken district in the long term. Programmes such as the "Summer Camp" and the "Hand on the Heart" practice month are important components of this strategy. With formats such as the night watchman tour, we not only want to familiarise students with the city, but also show them how liveable Bocholt and Westmünsterland are as a possible future place to work and live", says Lisa Knuf.
