The special film "The History of Sound"
Romantic drama // Screening on Tuesday, 9 June 2026 at 8 pm at the Kinodrom // Admission 7 euros.
As part of the "KINO Bocholt - the special film" series, the romantic drama "The History of Sound" will be shown on Tuesday, 9 June 2026 at 8 pm. The film by director Oliver Hermanus shows the love story between Lionel and David. While many historical love stories tell of prohibition and repression, this film is about the naturalness of feelings. The two actors Josh O'Connor and Paul Mescal symbolise a new, fragile image of masculinity.
Lionel grows up in rural Kentucky, influenced by his father's songs and the simple life on the family farm. In 1917, he leaves home to study at the music conservatory in Boston. There he meets the charismatic composer David. A deep connection develops between them, but it comes to an abrupt end when David goes off to war. After the end of the First World War, fate brings the two together again. Together they travel through snowy Maine in the winter of 1920 to collect traditional folk songs and preserve them for future generations.
The film lasts 129 minutes.
The film was directed by Oliver Hermanus
