BRETAGNE - Land in the sea

He's back again! For many years, travel journalist and professional photographer Hartmut Krinitz has been a regular guest in Bocholt at the invitation of the VHS. After several fascinating multivisions - most recently about Scotland and Ireland - his new journey takes him to a landscape full of contrasts and secrets: Brittany.

Deep in the west of Europe lies a landscape characterised by the sea: Brittany. Countless lighthouses dot the rugged coastline, endless sandy beaches shift to the rhythm of Europe's highest tides. Islands such as Ouessant and Belle-Île-en-Mer defy the winter storms, fishing villages nestle in sheltered bays and towns such as Saint-Malo, Brest and Concarneau tell of life on and with the sea. The legendary forests of Brocéliande and Huelgoat stretch inland, while megalithic sites such as Carnac and Gavrinis bear witness to thousands of years of spirituality.

This special landscape produces special people: Joséphine, who found her way from a career in banking to one of the largest fish auction halls in France. The harpist and druid Myrdhin brings old sounds back to life. Organic cider producer Eric Baron made it into the wine cellars of the Élysée Palace with his organic cider. Salt farmer Matthieu produces the finest fleur de sel in the Guérande.

Together with Eli Krinitz, the photographer explored Brittany in a variety of ways - by sailing boat, cabin cruiser, from the air in an ultralight aeroplane and on foot on the GR34. Wherever the paths lead: They all end at the sea. And finally in Finistère, "at the end of the world" - where it all begins.

After more than a year of intensive travelling through this fascinating region, "Bretagne - Land in the Sea" is a great homage to a land full of character, myth and soul. In his multivision, Hartmut Krinitz combines masterful photography, authentic music, literary excerpts, original sounds and in-depth live commentary to create a unique style that touches and inspires.
