Four green noise barriers in the area of the junction with Schwanenstraße // The carriageway will remain open, with restrictions on the footpath and cycle path // Completion scheduled for the end of November 2026
On Monday, 5 October 2026, work began on the four green noise barriers at the Westring Tunnel, near the junction with Schwanenstraße. The city of Bocholt is carrying out targeted repairs on the sections in need of refurbishment, whilst intact sections will be left as they are. The carriageway will remain open to motor traffic, but there will be some restrictions on the footpath and cycle path.
The aim of the refurbishment is to ensure that the existing noise barriers and their protective function for local residents are maintained in the long term. To this end, the sections where damage has been identified will be repaired. Sections that are in good condition will remain untouched. Prior to this, the city council examined various refurbishment options and opted for a partial refurbishment. This will allow the available funds to be allocated where action is actually required.
During the construction period, pedestrians and cyclists should expect some restrictions on the footpath and cycle path. Motor traffic on the Westring will not be affected; the carriageway will remain fully open to traffic. The city asks all road users for their understanding and to observe the signage erected on site. The work is being carried out by a specialist contractor commissioned by the city. The project is scheduled for completion by the end of November 2026.
