Fit for the group: participants complete youth leader training in the city of Bocholt
Twelve dedicated participants successfully completed their youth leadership training in Bocholt in January. Over the course of two intensive weekends, the budding leaders from various clubs and associations acquired the necessary skills to lead youth groups. With this qualification, they are now well prepared to take on responsibility in local youth work.
During two intensive training weekends - on the second and fourth weekend in January - prospective youth group leaders received comprehensive training from Fridays to Sundays. The group, which was made up of members of various youth organisations, church congregations and interested private individuals, went through a programme comprising 40 teaching units.
The training was led by media educator and adult education trainer Willi Kisters from Sonsbeck, who contributed his many years of experience in the fields of communication, games and adventure education as well as youth leader training and teaching.
The training focussed on imparting practical knowledge that is essential for day-to-day work with children and young people. The participants deepened their understanding of group dynamic processes and learnt different leadership styles and moderation techniques. One focus was on legal safety: topics such as duty of supervision, liability issues, youth protection and accident prevention were discussed in detail. Raising awareness of child welfare and the implementation of corresponding protection concepts also formed an essential part of the joint work.
After successfully completing the course, the participants now have the official qualification to organise group lessons, youth recreational activities and holiday games independently and responsibly. This training is also a central building block for applying for the Youth Leader Card (JuLeiCa), which is recognised nationwide as proof of quality for voluntary work.
"The new youth leaders bring fresh energy and professional expertise to our local club landscape", says Bocholt's head of social affairs Björn Volmering with conviction. "The training gives participants the confidence they need to work with children and young people in the future and thus strengthen voluntary work in our city", says Volmering.
In addition to the professional legitimisation, the JuLeiCa expresses the social appreciation for the commitment of the young people and also enables them to receive the volunteer card in Bocholt.
The graduates contributed to the seminar units with a mixture of joy and a high level of discipline and enriched the training with their individual experiences from their practical work in clubs. "The participants were extremely committed, motivated and contributed to the seminar units with a successful mix of enjoyment and discipline", summarised Nicole van Baal, the responsible employee from the Youth and Family department, with great satisfaction.
