FW Bocholt: Road traffic accident and two fire call-outs
Bocholt (ots) -
In the early evening, at around 6.00 pm, the fire brigade was called to a road traffic accident on Dixperloer Straße. Two cars had collided in a rear-end collision. When the alarm was raised, it was initially assumed that one person was trapped inside a vehicle. However, the person had already been freed from the vehicle whilst the fire brigade was still on its way.
A total of two people were injured and treated by the ambulance service. The fire brigade secured the scene against oncoming traffic, secured the vehicles involved in the accident, ensured fire safety and contained leaking fluids. The police were also at the scene and took charge of further measures relating to the accident investigation and traffic control.
At around 7.40 pm, the next call-out followed regarding a reported fire on an embankment along the B473. On arrival, it transpired that the visible smoke was a cloud of exhaust fumes from a generator. The generator was being used to power a water pump for irrigating agricultural land. There was no fire, so the fire service did not need to take any action.
Whilst still on the return journey from this incident, another call came in regarding a reported vegetation fire on Frankenstraße.
On arrival, approximately 200 m² of vegetation was alight. The emergency services extinguished the fire using a C-hose. The burnt area and its surroundings were then checked for any embers or residual hot spots using a thermal imaging camera. The operation was completed after around 30 minutes.
The fire service deployed a total of nine firefighters and three vehicles for these operations. In some cases, they were supported by the Bocholt City Ambulance Service, which provided six paramedics and three vehicles, including an emergency doctor's vehicle.
