FW Bocholt: Fire at a residential building - the fire brigade prevents the situation from getting worse

FW Bocholt (ots) -

The Bocholt Fire Brigade was called out to a fire on Kochenheimstraße on Saturday, 22 August 2026, at 3.06 pm. The fire had been spotted by the crew of a passing ambulance.
When the emergency services arrived, it became apparent that a hedge approximately four metres long, as well as a barbecue on the terrace and other items, were fully ablaze.
The gas cylinder belonging to the barbecue had already blown off via the safety valve due to the heat from the fire. It had to be kept cool by the emergency services until the remaining gas had completely escaped from the cylinder.
Smoke and soot had seeped into the adjoining flat through a shattered, tilted window. The flat was completely filled with smoke. As it could not initially be ruled out that a person was still inside the flat, the incident code was upgraded to "Fire - Life in danger%$.
A team wearing full-face respirators entered the flat to search for people. Fortunately, it turned out that no one was inside the flat. At the same time, fire-fighting operations were carried out outside the building. In total, three fire hoses and two teams wearing full-face respirators were deployed at one point.
Due to the fire and the heavy smoke, the flat is currently uninhabitable. No one was injured.
The Bocholt Fire Brigade was on the scene with eight vehicles and a total of 22 firefighters. Once the fire had been extinguished and the affected areas checked, the operation was concluded.
