A talk with light refreshments and drinks at the Appendix of the LernWerk Bocholt on Thursday, 1 October 2026 // The German-British Society Bocholt e.V. and EUROPE DIRECT Bocholt invite you to attend
NRW is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year. At the same time, the German-British Society is marking the "80 years of friendship between North Rhine-Westphalia and the United Kingdom. Dr Birgit Bujard will provide a historical context and look ahead at the LernWerk. The event, which includes refreshments, is free of charge. Please register with the German-British Society or EUROPE DIRECT Bocholt.
The focus of the evening will be on how relations between North Rhine-Westphalia and the United Kingdom have developed since the end of the Second World War - and what significance they hold for Europe today, ten years after the Brexit referendum.
The speaker, Dr Birgit Bujard, combines historical perspectives with current political and social insights into German-British cooperation. She will examine the UK's role in Europe following Brexit, as well as the prospects for a continued close partnership between Germany - specifically North Rhine-Westphalia - and the UK.
Drawing on her wealth of experience and specialist knowledge, the expert will be happy to answer any questions from the audience and will be available for a discussion.
The Lancashire Hotpot being served is a tribute to Bocholt's twin town, Rossendale, which is situated in the county of Lancashire. An interesting fact to note is that in 2027, Bocholt will celebrate "75 years of friendship with Rossendale%$.
