Online discussion on mid-term elections in the USA
Online event on 12 November 2026 at 7 pm // Hosted by EUROPE DIRECT Steinfurt and Bocholt // Free to attend
The topic of the evening is the US mid-term elections on 3 November 2026, which are already being covered in the international press. The organisers, EUROPE DIRECT Bocholt and ED Steinfurt, are hosting an online discussion on the topic on 12 November at 7 pm.
As well as analysing the election, the evening will focus in particular on the future of transatlantic relations. The relationship between the US and Europe, which for decades has been a cornerstone of Western security and the international order, faces major challenges in the face of growing international uncertainty and the changing role of the US.
How did the US vote in the mid-term elections, the so-called "Midterms"? What impact will the result have on President Donald Trump and American politics? And above all: what does the election mean for relations between the US and Europe? These and other questions will be discussed.
The experts
Our guests are Doris Simon, until recently a Washington correspondent for Deutschlandfunk and now working at Deutschlandradio's Berlin studio, and Siebo Janssen, a political and European affairs expert who is known, amongst other things, as a commentator on the Phoenix television channel. Jochen Leyhe will be moderating the discussion.
Doris Simon and Siebo Janssen aim not only to shed light on the evening's key issues from their professional perspectives, but also to discuss them with the audience. Questions and contributions from participants are very much welcome.
