Symbolic launch of the works on Heelweg in "Dinxperwick"

Shaping a special border together

Work on the Heelweg/Hellweg was symbolically launched on Friday, 9 October 2026. Those present included local residents, members of the "Grensbeleving" working group, the construction company Dusseldorp, and representatives from the town of Bocholt and the municipality of Aalten.

The Heelweg/Hellweg is a special place. The road runs partly through the Netherlands and partly through Germany. For the people who live here, the border is therefore part of everyday life. It is precisely for this reason that the municipality of Aalten and the town of Bocholt are working together on the redevelopment of the road. Not only to redesign the public space, but also to do justice to the special character of this border road.

Working together on a beautiful border
,
Mayor Stapelkamp, Head of Urban Planning Welling from Bocholt, and Messrs Diersen and Hoven from the "Grensbeleving" working group jointly raised the kerbs bearing the border markings. The border markings, in the form of crosses, are affixed to the kerbs. The choice of crosses rather than a continuous line emphasises the open character of the border.

This symbolic gesture marked the start of the works and underlined the shared commitment to the Heelweg/Hellweg. Following the opening ceremony, there was an opportunity to chat a little over coffee and tea.

Accessibility and construction work

Construction work on the Heelweg/Hellweg will begin in the course of November, as soon as work on the Aaltenseweg has been completed. This will ensure that we avoid having several through roads closed at the same time. We will publish the latest information on the construction work via the BouwApp. Search for "Herinrichting Centrum Dinxperlo" in the app and click "Follow" to stay up to date with the construction work.

For further information regarding this announcement, please contact the "Bestuurscommunicatie" team at communicatie(at)aalten(dot)nl or on +31 (543) 49 33 33.
