Public participation online: Suderwick clubs asked about village square planning
Impulses needed for the village square // Clubs in Suderwick should play an active role in shaping it
The city of Bocholt is pressing ahead with plans for the village centre in Suderwick and is also relying on the expertise of the local community. From 20 April to 29 May 2026, local associations are invited to submit their comments on the planned design of the village square. The aim is to optimise the square to meet the needs of Suderwick village life.
The town centre development concept (OKEK) for the Suderwick district continues to take shape. The plans cover key areas such as Sporker Straße, the village square, the square by the Protestant church and a section of Wiggerstraße. After the town council passed a resolution in March 2025 to press ahead with the design concept, the current draft is currently being finalised by a commissioned engineering company.
Applications for funding for the central elements of the village square and the section of Sporker Straße between the border and the junction with Wiggerstraße were submitted to the district government in March 2026.
Although the final decision from the funding bodies is still pending, the city of Bocholt is continuing its planning work in order to realise the project quickly. At the centre of the redesign is a significant increase in the quality of stay for all citizens.
At the same time, the area is to be adapted to the challenges of climate change through targeted measures. The future village square is designed as a lively meeting place that strengthens the village community and offers sufficient space for different uses and events.
In order to ensure that the final planning also meets the actual requirements of Suderwick's club life, a targeted participation phase is now taking place. Local clubs will have the opportunity to view the detailed planning documents and make their suggestions between 20 April and 29 May 2026. The documents are available on the participation portal of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia at https://beteiligung.nrw.de/k/1024917. Participants can use this link to submit their comments directly in digital form.
