The special film "No Country for Nobody - The Isolation of an Immigration Nation"

The film complements the city exhibition "Heavy Steps - Stories of Flight%$, which is on display in the Annex (Appendix) of the LernWerk at Industriestraße 1.

"No Country for Nobody - The Isolation of a Country of Immigration" is a German documentary film from 2025 directed by Max Ahrens and Maik Lüdemann. The film explores the consequences of more restrictive European and German migration and asylum policies and examines the political and social dynamics of increasing isolationism towards refugees.

The film follows rescue operations in the Mediterranean and documents living conditions in camps on Europe's external borders. People who have survived the perilous journey to Europe recount their experiences whilst fleeing. 

The focus is on the interplay between government policy and civil society engagement, as well as the influence of a shift to the right in society on migration policy. The film addresses the increasing criminalisation of refugee movements and the challenges faced by humanitarian aid organisations. The film runs for 111 minutes. It was directed by Maximilian Ahrens and Maik Lüdemann.

The film series "KINO Bocholt - the special film" has been running since 1977 as a collaboration between the Department of Education and Culture of the City of Bocholt and the Kinodrom Bocholt. The aim is to make exceptional films, which are not otherwise shown in the regular programme, accessible to a wide audience. Selected productions are usually screened on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month. Admission is €7.
