Oscar-winning Japanese anime film from Studio Ghibli // Screening on Tuesday 13 October 2026 at the Kinodrom // Admission: 7 euros

As part of the "KINO Bocholt - the special film" series, the iconic Japanese animated film "The Boy and the Heron" will be screened on 13 October 2026 in collaboration with Bocholt Adult Education Centre. Eleven-year-old Mahito is mourning the loss of his mother and finds himself transported to a magical world via a mysterious tower.

During an air raid on Tokyo, the mother of eleven-year-old Mahito Maki is killed. When his father then marries his late wife's younger sister and moves with his family to the countryside, a difficult time begins for Mahito.

He soon discovers a mysterious tower and a talking grey heron, who surprisingly tells him that his mother is still alive and is being held captive in a mysterious tower. When his stepmother also goes missing, Mahito sets off for the strange structure and finds himself in a magical world full of fantastical creatures and dangers. Many challenges await Mahito on his quest, which is also the path to his destiny.

The film runs for 125 minutes and was directed by Hayao Miyazaki. Trailers and tickets are available at www.kinodrom.de
