New "TuB bridge" over the Alte Aa opened

The city of Bocholt officially opened the new "TuB bridge" over the Alte Aa after its successful completion last Friday. The modern construction made of steel girders replaces the dilapidated wooden predecessor model and re-establishes the important connection to the stadium grounds. Citizens and members of the sports club can now use the bridge again without restriction.

The construction of the new bridge had become necessary after the previous wooden structure for pedestrians and cyclists had to be dismantled due to significant structural defects. The city council then planned a sustainable solution to secure the connection between the TuB Bocholt clubhouse and the neighbouring stadium in the long term. Construction work began in December last year with the installation of the massive steel girders on the previously prepared foundations.

The new bridge is characterised by a combination of high load-bearing capacity and weather-resistant material. While the supporting structure is made of steel, a glass fibre-reinforced plastic was chosen for the walking surface, which offers a high level of slip resistance even in wet conditions and guarantees a long service life. The railings were made of wood, allowing the structure to blend harmoniously into the natural surroundings of the Alte Aa. In the final stages of the construction work, the neighbouring paths were also adapted to create a barrier-free transition to the new bridge structure.
