Hospital around 1920

The viewer is standing on the upper floor of a building on the corner of Wesemannstraße and Schonenberg, looking north-east towards St. Agnes Hospital, founded in 1844, and the adjoining St. Agnes Chapel.

A closer look reveals the different architectural styles of the hospital. The rear part, a building with a towering front gable, was built in 1874/75 and previously housed a children's nursery attached to the hospital.

The adjoining wing was extended in 1896 and 1906/07 and the garden in front was used to grow vegetables and later as a recreation area for patients. The neighbouring St. Agnes Chapel is one of the two remaining medieval buildings in the town alongside the parish church of St. George. It was built in 1488, given to the Protestant parish in 1819 and reacquired as a Catholic church in 1901.
